Battery Level and Performance

Info in an article in the Knowledge Base. Any internal below 3.6 is too low for the camera to function. Fresh lithiums should register over 9.5 (and even into 10.something). The AA batteries are in two banks of six, so six alkaline at 1.5 would be 9 volts. Lithiums are often 1.8.

The camera runs on its internal lithium battery. Every other power source (AA, 12V, solar) is considered external. The external sources charge the internal.

Thank you this helps.   Except that is seems to say that if I'm using Lithium batteries, which tend to have a higher output (1.7volts) then the battery voltage could incorrectly be reported.   It would be lower than what the true voltage is?   Is this correct?

I’m not sure what your question is. The external voltage will be reported correctly. The problem is that there is overlap between the voltage for a depleted 12V battery and fresh lithium AA so the symbol may not be correct. Ignore the symbol, pay attention to the actual voltages.

Here is my problem - I went out Monday and replaced the batteries in a camera I have on some property.  Each Energizer Ultimate Lithium battery I put in the camera, I tested with a multimeter and they all measured 1.7 volts.  12 X 1.7 volts = 20.4.   My camera reports no where near that amount of voltage.  Currently showing 10.22 volts external and 3.8 internal.   That's half the measured voltage of the total amount of batteries I put in.   Why doesn't it show somewhere nearer the 20.4 volts I put in via batteries this past Monday?  Without the accurate reading I have no idea of the time I've got to my next battery swap out.

The article says:  ¹Fresh lithium batteries will often cause this icon to appear. The voltage of lithium batteries can often be higher than 10.6v which can read as a discharged 12v battery. Once the camera has been set for a bit, the voltage will drop into the upper AA battery range and you will see the AA battery indicator.

The batteries are actually in two groups of 6 so fresh lithium should read 10+ volts. The internal running on batteries will only charge up to about 3.97 max.

Ah, the rest of the story.   So the two sets run in parallel and not in series and thus the highest voltage I would see is 10.2 volts (roughly)?   Thank you for clarifying.
