The power symbol is on the second row of info on the Home Screen just to the right of the signal bars. During the day, you should see a sun symbol when the solar panel is working. At night, you should see a little AA battery symbol.

Your solar panel should be facing south and mounted at a 30-35 degree angle.

If your camera isn’t on a feeder or really busy spot, you may want to try running with just the solar panel. Using AA batteries actually decreases the efficiency of solar because the AA charge the internal battery at night, leaving less for the solar panel to do during the day. If you don’t have AA batteries, the internal battery will discharge more at night but then solar should recharge it during the day.

Make sure that the camera is set to solar and aa batteries in the camera setting in the app. What camera model do you have and are you using a Spartan solar panel? During the daylight what is the voltage showing for your external power on the status report?
