Go into settings for the camera on the app and set up a schedule event to take a picture at a time of day that you want.

I just picked up a Model# GC-A4Gb, Blackout Infrared.  I also own Model# GC-A4Gi which I picked up a few years ago.  The A4Gi I took down to AT&T and they hooked me up with a sim card for $11 a month.  I can set it to real time and take a pic anytime via the mobile app.  My new cam, A4G blackout, I used the service through Spartancamera.com and I don't have the real time setting and I can't take a pic via the mobile app.  Is it because registering the camera through the spartan, or would it be due to the design of the camera?   Need help.  I need this feature.

I'm thinking you're older model is an ATTi (not the A4gi) the new models with video don't have the real time picture in the app settings. What reason do you need that, maybe we can figure out a way around it with the other settings.

Hi John,  I think your right.  The older one takes pics whenever I need.  It's important because I rescue lost pets.  I live in Alaska and gets quite cold.  There are times when a pic is triggered and by the time the camera was reset a dog got into my trap and I never knew.  Fortunately was summer time.  You don't want to leave an animal in a trap for any extended period of time.  I do set event pics intervals so I can monitor the trap.  There are times when I want to take a pic to check whether the door is still set open and/or check whether something isn't out of the ordinary.  For me its a very important feature that I need.  If there anything to do I would appreciate your "way around it".

I was wondering if I were to use the IMEI# of my other camera at AT&T?  Or, maybe there is a text code I can just send to the phone number associated to the SIM I used in my Spartan backoffice.

    Thanks John

Use time lapse every 5, 10, 15 minutes, whatever is appropriate. Event photos are great, but they're an hour (or more) apart. In a lot of situations, event photos might work nicely, this isn't one of those situations.

Elizabeth your suggesting I use the timelapse interval in the trigger settings.  I guess I could try using a 30 seconds delay to see what happens after the movement.  I will give it a try.  I still want the ability to take a pic whenever I desire though.  Such a great asset to this camera for what I use it for.

30 second delay is just the amount of time the camera is quiet after it has sent a picture, before it can take/send the next one. I don't think that's what you're describing.

How often do you want to take a picture now? After 15 minutes, 30 minutes? Set time lapse for that and then you will have pictures coming in regularly and you don't even have to think about it.

I would be surprised to see take a picture now come back. It's been gone for a couple or three years.

Actually I want to take the pic when there is movement. The problem I ran into was I caught a dog after it triggered the camera before going into the humane trap.  Then I didn't get another pic.  Not sure why.  I.e. a dog walks into FOV and takes a pic.  Dog is still heading for the trap and goes in and trips the trap and is captured.   I'm not sure if camera then can't detect any movement or heat signature through the mesh but I then don't get a pic until next motion detection or event I set.  At -20 below, and yes this camera does work for me at -20 below, the possibility of a frozen dog is possible.  Thats why so important I can follow up with a manual pic

A manual picture is not possible. I understand the importance of getting a picture after the camera is triggered, but the only workaround for now is time lapse. Is 15 minutes too long? If not, set 15 minute time lapse and you will get a picture every 15 minutes.

Unfortunately, that's the best I can offer at this time. It's not what you want but it will work.

So that I understand.  When a dog goes into FOV and triggers a pic I will get that pic as designed.  But, if I want to change that I can time lapse it and take a picture, 30 seconds to 15 minutes or even hours, and it will send me the pic that time interval all day long?  Is that correct?

Elizabeth, are you a Spartan Representative?

The problem is that the camera has to trigger after you request the TL update. I would just set it to something reasonable (I don't know how long a dog is vulnerable, maybe 30 minutes would work during the summer, 10 or 15 during the winter) before the dog hits the trap.

I am a camera test team member, not a regular Spartan Camera employee, just like Johnny. Does it matter?

No it doesn't matter.  I am glad that I you, and John, have personal working knowledge of the camera.  I just need a work around.  This may be still a great camera for hunting recon etc.  But for a person using it for what I do, where a living creature is in my hands, or trap, I'm responsible to make sure I can see when I want to see it.  I'm sure you understand.  For me this is a deal killer.  It gets pretty chilly here and I need that feature.  If I can't get a solution, this camera just became extinct to me.  And I really like the camera.

Why won't time lapse work? I don't understand why getting a picture every 10 or 15 minutes won't protect the animal. When you set the trap, turn time lapse on to some reasonable amount of time. The camera will still trigger on motion. Once the dog is in the trap, you can turn time lapse off.

I don't see a reason why it wouldn't work, it would just be exhausting for me.  And I truly see you wanting to help.  As I mentioned before,  you never leave an animal in a trap any longer than you have too. It's a rescue unwritten rule!  It can be very traumatizing to an animal.  With that being said I monitor literally 24 hours per day.  I set events every 2 hours in the evening and 3 hours in the daytime and I get audible text messages all during the 24 hours.  I can deal with that, a little tiring but okay.  If I were to time lapse as you say every 15 minutes to answer my dilemma, I would be checking 96 audible texts per day.  I would never sleep.  When I monitor ever 2-3 hours and something is suspicious it was so nice to just take a quick pic to answer my question.

Does the Model# GC-A4Gb Blackout Infrared text video?  Maybe if I were to set a 30 second video it would capture the information I would need.

Or maybe select camera mode, Photo and video, and will text me an image.  If I question it I can go to app and view 30 seconds of 1 minute of video.

    1. Videos cannot be transmitted via text.
    2. Transmitted videos are limited to 10 seconds.
    3. You have to request the video, which won't come in until the next time the camera contacts the server.

You could try video only, but that works only with the app.

I'll try that but 10 seconds is not much time.  May answer my dilemma though.

Michael McGhie, here's something that should work. First you need a cell plan that supports texting, the Spartan plans don't but the Buy A Sessions should. So you will need to get a new SIM card that works with Buy A Session and cancel your Spartan plan and purchase a BAS plan. Just like with your 3g camera when you get that plan they will assign a phone number to the camera, write that number down. I would actually enter it in to the contacts in your phone and give it a name (Spartan2 or something easy to remember). Then turn power save off in the camera settings in the app and update the settings. Once they are updated on the camera try texting *500# to the camera and see if it sends you a picture. Just like with the real time being on, power save turned off is going to be much harder on your camera batteries.

Just want to be sure that you understand that your settings changes won’t take effect until after the next time the camera contacts the server. If you don’t have any scheduled events, then that may be midnight.

What model camera do you have? GC-what? When was the last time you got a picture from the camera? Is the firmware current? What type of batteries are you using? What is the P number in the lower right corner of the last few night photos that you got?

There is a customer service phone number, 770-582-0004, 9 AM - 6 PM Eastern M-F.
