Storing ATT cameras for the winter
First and foremost, thanks to you eswoope, johnny deer hunter, William, and Vince for contributing to another successful deer season for my son, some of my deer hunting friends, and myself. Many thanks to you all for being there with your support when I needed you. Deer season is drawing to a close and it's time for me to take my cameras down and store them until summer. A couple of questions I need your thoughts on:
1 - Do I need to update the firmware prior to storing my AT&T cameras, and
2 - Do I need to do anything with Spartan and / or AT&T so as not to incur charges for the on my winter/spring bill?
Happy New Year,
Gregg

Gregg,
I’m glad to hear that your cameras helped you have a successful hunting season.
It doesn’t matter whether you update the firmware now or later. The cameras will be off. You’ll want to check before you put them out again and update at that time if there is an update available.
If your cameras are on Buy-A-Session, you don’t have to do anything to stop the billing. The plans will expire and that will be that. However, if you want to use the SIMs again, you need to delete the devices. If you don’t, after 30 or 60 days, the SIMs can’t be activated again.
As far as premium service goes, when your current month expires, another credit won’t be deducted until the next time the cameras contact the server, which will be when you reactivate them.
If you are concerned about electronic devices doing bad while stored, you can run them as regular trail cams (turn send OFF in the menu), or do that every month or two for a little while. -
Eswoope,
Let me make sure I know what I am doing before I do it to avoid having to call you up and let you straighten out my mess:
So in order deactivate my cameras and use the SIMs cards again I need to "delete the cameras." I understand that to mean I go to the portal and access "Camera Management" and delete each of my cameras. Then when I get ready to put them back out in the summer I add them back in "Camera Management" and "buy a session" for each camera, thus I can use the same existing SIMs cards. Once I do that I update the firmware and should be good to go. Correct?
Thanks,
Gregg

Gregg,
Johnny is correct. You can leave your cameras on the portal (or you can take them off and reregister them when you’re ready to put them out). However, if you want to reuse the SIM cards, you need to delete the cameras from the AT&T web site no later than about 60 days after the data plans expire. If you know for sure you won’t be using them, then you can delete them even with time/data still left on the plan.

P.S. You won’t be calling me :). Now Vince and William are a whole different matter.
