Battery Life (Externals)

I can't tell how the battery is wired, just make sure that it's only putting out 6 volts. Your settings look good, I would change the MP's to 5 instead of the 8. That set up should last you a long time, I would guess over 3000, maybe 4000 pics but it's hard to say for sure. Don't forget you can enter something in the nametag section and it will show on the photos. Also make sure that power save is turned on.

Power save is in the camera settings on the app. I would make sure that the card is a class 10, you don't want to have problems down the road. Sandisk class 10 16gb are my favorite and Walmart usually has them pretty well priced.

You may want to consider setting the trigger interval to 0 seconds since this is not on a feeder or minerals. It won’t “help” battery life, but you may get a few more pictures. If you are getting too many pics, you can always change the setting to something other than 0.

Oh, I’d also set a status report at 3 AM. That will take care of the time change automatically in the wee hours of the AM so your time will be correct before the 5 AM event.

Johnny and Elizabeth are the experts here, but for my .02 cents worth, being 20 hours away, I'd add a solar panel. I've got two Spartans in the field with 6v 42ah batteries, solar panels and solar controllers that have been out for well over 18 months, never touched them. Mike Kirkpatrick at herd360.com has everything you need to add to what you've already got, and it's not expensive nor difficult.

I buy golf cart batteries, they last a year before needing charging , but it’s best to charge every 6 months.  On year 4 and they’ll go 4-6 months as they age.
