I've never sold one of these cameras to anyone with a flip phone, and I stated that they weren't the ones with the cameras. I'm also not blaming Spartan for Android not upgrading the OS on the older phones, but when you've been using them for quite some time with no problem, and they (Spartan) release an "update" for the mobile app, you don't expect the forced update to make it useless. Not trying to sound unreasonable or anything, but from a marketing standpoint it makes sense to ensure that your customers are still able to use the products that they've already purchased. Not to mention they're not a cheap camera.. And from my standpoint, selling the cameras to my customers, what do I tell them on the 25th when their cameras stop sending pictures? Not to mention, it will also make me look bad, because all the cameras I've sold have been through showing them my personal cameras and telling them how I haven't had any issues with them. Not saying that any of them have an older phone, but there is a good possibility that they may have. Again, I'm not trying to come off as irrational or anything, but I think its a pretty valid point.

I understand what you are saying but at some point the older technology just isn't going to work anymore. The developers are working on getting it fixed but there's no promises that they can fix it, it might just not be possible with the older operating system. Spartan can't not improve the app and add new features because a company didn't update their operating system. For the customers with the older system they can still get the pics through text or email and can still makes changes or even view the photos and videos on the portal on their phones. Hopefully they can find a way to get it to work, fingers crossed.

I totally understand that, just have to keep our fingers crossed and hope they can get the issue resolved. We have hog problems here in Southeast Oklahoma, as they do in several other places, and my best sales pitch for these cameras is telling people how nice it is to have your phone ding and know within just a minute or so that they're in front of your camera. Then I show them the pictures with the time stamps, and its pretty much a done deal..

These 3 photos usually set the hook! Lol.. Anyways, like you said, hopefully they can find a way to get it working again before too long!

You may want to search for how to upgrade the Droid MAXX. There may be a way.

Sometimes when new features are added, they take advantage of features that are only available in newer versions of the OS. There are plenty of old apps that weren’t updated for new OS and plenty more that have been updated and won’t work with older versions of the OS (not just Android, same with iOS and Windows, probably OSX, as well but I’m not a Mac user).

The reverse of your position is do you expect the developers to deprive users of new features because those features won’t work on very old versions of the OS?

Yes sir! I've sold several cameras showing those exact photos, and telling the story. The hog problem is getting pretty bad around here and telling/showing people photos from my personal cameras and how easy they are to use has been the best marketing for myself. Here's another shot of what i mean by "pretty" bad.. Same plot as the other photos, just moved the camera to a different tree

I'll keep trying to figure out a way to get it to work on my dads phone, but I can't risk messing with a customers phone in case it messes something up. I've got a buddy that works for Verizon, I'll pick his brain a little. And I'm not giving up on Spartan at the moment, I love the cameras and everything still works great on my phone, but if I can't get his working I may have no choice later on, and I understand that all he'd have to do is buy a new phone, but he doesn't even like having a cell phone and trying to talk him into a new one is worse than pulling teeth. The only reason he has one is so that the alarm company can contact him if our alarm goes off when we're closed. He's just hard headed and set in his ways "I don't need a new damn phone, this one still works" is all I've heard the last couple years trying to get him to get rid of the 2009 model he was carrying. I finally just brought one of my old ones to the shop and swapped everything over without saying anything to him so he didn't really have a say in it lol... And landmines would be nice, but they're frowned upon unfortunately haha!! We've got a couple really good thermal scopes that have been helping us put a small dent in them, but the landmines would be much cooler! I'd definitely be switching from photo to video.. Does warranty cover landmine shrapnel???.....asking for a friend

Why are a relatively small number of people who hate technology supposed to dictate what happens for thousands (tens of thousands? Hundreds of thousands) of camera users who use technology that’s just a little more modern? Sorry, but I don’t get that at all.

He doesn’t have to buy a NEW phone. He can get an older one, a refurbished one, or even a cheap new one.

I would be really curious what percent of your customers have phones with Android versions earlier than 5. I would be surprised if it’s more than a small percent.

The only way you’re going to put a dent in those hogs is to use a corral trap and get the entire group at once.

Exactly how is that dictating "what happens for thousands (tens of thousands? Hundreds of thousands) of camera users who use technology that’s just a little more modern?" I never once said they shouldn't make improvements to the app, because that is absurd.. On the same note, I really think you should try to accommodate the customers that don't have the same "up to date technology" as the others, especially when it was just previously working on the previous version. I know they're probably working on fixing it.

I know they are probably working on it, and i hope they can figure something out. Personally on my end, money is no object, but I'm more on the business end of the deal. I've got two remote hog traps, and over $20k in thermal, but not everyone has that luxury. The economy where I live isn't as good as other regions of the US, so some people have different views than you might have.

You are not talking about an operating system that is a couple or three generations old. You are talking about an OS that is 5, almost 6 generations old. You’re talking about people who are spending money on cellular cameras and all the accouterments, data, etc., but have seriously outdated tech.

What percent of your customers are using phones with really old operating systems?

I spend time in LA and MS. Neither is a wealthy state.

I have been working with tech for over 35 years now. I have gone through many pieces of tech equipment through the years. There comes a time when the new stuff no longer supports the old stuff.

Maybe the developers are working on it. I don’t know. Have pictures sent to the outdated phone as text messages. It’s not as cool as the app, but it works with older tech.

Regardless of how old it is, as a manufacturer of a product like this, I think you should still accommodate the needs of customers who have previously owned this product. I understand when Verizon started phasing out 3G products, you can't do much about that, so therefore the 3G cameras are pretty much just regular game cameras now. I've got a customer (who money also isn't an object to) that has 13 Spartan cameras, and a few of his were the 3G ones, but he contacted Spartan and they made him a deal on replacing the few he had that were 3G (which is great on their part) and he replaced them with newer (4G) ones. But also, if you still have a phone that was previously capable of receiving pictures on the app, I think an "update" to an app, shouldn't hinder their usage. I'm in no means a tech guru, but I also would like to think there is a way to make it happen. I'm not saying they shouldn't make improvements, and I'm not trying to belittle them at all. I've been nothing but satisfied with them, and from what johnnydeerhunter said, I hope they are truly working on figuring something out.
