Verizon 4G camera stopped transmitting pictures
I don't get it - my Verizon 4g stopped tranmitting pics. Called support after 3 days. They sent me two huge update files. For me, this means i now have anothe r100 mile round trip to pull the sd card and put the new progam files in. What makes me stomping mad is that they obviously new about this. Why not send out notice to anyone on the 4g network that transmission would stop until the new program files are put in.
i don't get it!

Which Verizon 4G camera? There are 3 models.
They may have sent you a FW update that is still in testing phase or is not yet packaged for release, which is why they emailed it rather than it being available online or OTA.
Not all 4G Verizon cameras have stopped, probably not even most. If they had, this forum and the Facebook page would be flooded with complaints. They aren’t.
My Z4G stopped transmitting pics after working flawlessly for months. The SD card had gone bad.
What brand, class (4, 6, or 10) SD card are you using?
There are all sorts of reasons that cameras stop transmitting. Sometimes it is because the camera needs a FW update. Sometimes FW updates are necessary because of changes made by cell carriers.
I know it’s no fun to have to go back to the camera. My round trip is 250 miles. There are lots of people whose cameras are much farther away than that.

I realize there are different cameras. Personally, I don’t care whether my camera is 5 or 500 miles away. That is t the point. The file they sent me is huge . Sent in two parts one of which came in a zip file . This is not a typical update . They would not tell me what prompted my 4g camera to stop communicating with Verizon, and I’ll guess My camera is not the only one in the country that this large software overwrite applies to . I’m posting this because there is obviously some type of an issue that exists , and for others to recognize it . If I would have seen this post when my camera stopped, I would have brought it back home to go thru the several step -wait 10 minutes between some steps to install these two files

They sent you the “HUGE” file because it is necessary, not for the fun of it or to annoy you. It will probably be rolled into a “typical” OTA update when it’s done. What you probably have is the “work in progress” version.
They’re trying to fix your problem but you seem unhappy with the fix for some reason. I don’t disagree that it’s a PITA. Been there, done that, but if that’s what it takes, then that’s what I do.
We testers use these “non-typical” updates fairly frequently. That’s how the testing is done and then once all the changes are made, the normal downloadable and OTA update versions are created.
The 10-minute update doesn’t always take the full 10 minutes. I think they give an overestimate to keep people from getting too antsy.
The reason I asked for the camera model is because the different models use different firmware. I was curious which of the three models you are using, but since you don’t care to share that info, never mind.

The update file is dsp 11-28-2018. I am only seeing one camera that is a 4g Verizon cell can. Regarding eswoopes comment, no, I am elated they reacted quickly to fix this. That is not the point or reason for the post. If this large file was built, then obviously there is an issue with some/few/all cameras. My point is that I wish they would be proactive and notify users they have something haywire going on.

Toolman if you want to send me your portal log in information and I'll take a look. My email is johnny.lockburner@spartancamera.com

Toolman,
You appear to be assuming that the problem is widespread. As I said earlier, if it were widespread, there would be bunches of complaints here and on the FB page. There are not. That’s not to minimize the problem because it is a problem for those who are experiencing it.
Obviously they are working on (or have worked on) a fix for the problem. There’s no point in alarming people, especially if they are still working on finalizing the fix.
The size of the file has nothing to do with how “large” the problem is. There are different components that need to be updated. Sometimes it’s just one component, sometimes it’s more than one. The files are the size they need to be and you can’t judge importance or unusualness by file size. These newer cameras have more components that can be updated than the older ones do.
I hope this fixes your problem. Why your camera had it, who knows?

Tim, email me your portal log in username and password and I'll see what I can find out. Email it to johnny.lockburner@spartancamera.com

I have no clue why you continue to jump in to this thread. i am well aware of the different models. What Tim (above) may not know is that there is a huge software update that Spartan has. If his camera is one of the models affected, then he needs to call in to tech and get the zip-file update. HIs problem-description is exactly like mine. He also put this out on a forum, looking for help. No one asked if the cameras files are interchangeable. I am not "dealing wiith this" but offering a clue where the problem lies.

Toolman,
Johnny and I are the quasi official “helper elves” here on the forum.
Instead of suggesting that Tim contact tech support because he might need to get update files emailed to him, you asked him an open-ended question about whether his camera was a Verizon 4G model, of which there are three.
