Solar panel power

I am planning to connect a 12v solar panel up to my cam. I will be putting a 12v to 6v convertor in line. Was just wondering if 3 amps is to much to camera. Going to use a

12V to 6V Converter, DROK Car Power Converter DC 9V-22V 12V to DC 6V Buck Voltage Regulator 3A 18W Waterproof High Efficiency Step Down Volt Module Power Supply.

Will this work, or is the amperage to high?

  Are you trying to power the camera directly from the solar panel? If so, you can’t do that. The only camera designed for direct-connect solar panel is the GC-W4Gb (Ghost). Since you mention converting to 6V, that leads me to believe that your camera is NOT a W.

  I’m not familiar with the ins and outs of external power, but the typical solar setup for these cameras is a solar panel to keep an external battery charged and then the external battery is connected to the camera.

  Thats what I will be doing. 12v solar to 12v lead acid battery with the regulator in line after the battery and to the camera.

  was just wondering if 3 amps coming out of the regulator is to high for the camera.

  It's my understanding that amps are pulled from the camera not pushed from the battery or converter so you should be fine. In your situation there will be three amps available to the camera if it needs it. I'm not sure what the cameras demands are though.

  I've been using that DROK buck converter on my Spartan cameras for years. It works fine.
