Battery life and firmware update
I have 3 , 3g ATT cams that work just fine with a manual pic and then one right after it via motion. But then it stops, when I go back the next week batteries are dead. I think I’ve determined maybe I hit Update Firmware and that process is so long it freezes the cam due it trying to download the update and eventually eats the batteries. Reason it seems like that could be it is when I replaced the batteries, full bars full power, I noticed it started counting 3 of 375, 4 of 375, 5 of 375 etc.., then I look at the status update and it says Firmware update is in process and has been in process for a week. That’s my guess because it’s happening to all with a pending firmware update. I’ve canceled them , but the batteries are prob all gone again. Sounds like remote firmware update may not be the best way for the old 3GS.

I would default the camera and format the memory card as well. Is it one of the original 3G cameras (Atti or Attb) or is the ATTxb? (The xb does videos). Obviously if you are taking the update to the camera on an SD card don't format the card until the update is complete. Remember formatting will erase all the pics and vids from the card.

Now I’m second guessing the update as the reason, I canceled the update, put a new battery external and it took one pic, then stopped working for a week and then all of sudden sending pics again for a day then stopped again. I retrieved the camera, it was getting 4 bars ATT, but when I took a manual pic it sat on setting for many minutes and never sent a pic. Turned it off, then back on and took a manual pic fine. Brought it home and while messing around with manual pics, noticed it was no longer saying sending 1/10 but started sayin sending 1/5 and then every once in a while would show a buffering error message. I changed the card to a new card, formatted it and it does the same thing. Looked at the card when it took it down and it was sending prob 1 out of 4 pics and pics were hours apart that didn’t send. 3-4 bars is normal in this location.

When I go to the firmware drop down , it goes to a news letter page. When I go to downloads it’s only manuals. I have a 1/2018 version from support last year for another cam, this one is 5/2017. Odd that’s worked fine for 4 years then all of sudden sporadic. Spartan support mentioned something about ATT blocking some of the old per cams thinking they are bots. Which sort of correlates to why it will start working again if turned off and back on, at least for a little while.

Here’s a link to the page with the downloadable files. The instructions are below the table with the files listed.
https://my.spartancamera.com/download
It’s on this web site, Support > Support and then there’s a link to the actual downloads page.
