Lost signal

Are you sure the data plan is good? You can try cleaning the SIM card with a pencil eraser and wiping it off and reinserting it. Try defaulting the camera in it's menu as well. What is the cameras model number?

When was the last time the camera worked? Is the firmware current? Is the antenna secure?

Did you buy your data plan from Spartan or from AT&T?

The paper work said it came with 1 credit. I checked my account and it has 1 credit. It had signal when I first turned it on.

Credit is different then data plan, sounds like you need to purchase data. The SIM cards come with a tiny bit of data on them.

I just went back and reread it. 1 credit is good for one month the way it reads that is a data plan.

Credits are what you need to use premium (the app and premium services) if you buy your data from ATT, if you get your data from Spartan then you don't need the credits. There should be instructions in the pocket that the SIM card was in telling you how to purchase the data. The SIM card is either good for Spartan data or through ATT so make sure you get your data from the correct place. Almost all the new cameras being shipped have the white front SIM card and you have to get your data through Spartan. Where did you buy the camera from?

Instructions say buy the premium service. No where does it say you need a att service plan. The other camera I have has att service plan.

I read another support and it you would have a signal but would not send pictures.  I have no signal at all. An antenna with an x beside it.

When I first activated it it sent a picture. That I took.

Like I mentioned before the SIM cards come with a small amount of data on them, usually enough to send one or maybe two pictures. You absolutely have to purchase data for the camera. The SIM card should have come in a postcard type sleeve/pocket with instructions on where to purchase the data (Either ATT or through Spartan). Is your other camera a Spartan?

On the carrier for your SIM, does it have a sticker on it about how to activate data service?

I think that your problem is that you don’t have service. If the SIM is a Spartan SIM, you need to by data from Spartan. If it’s an AT&T SIM (unlikely unless it’s a very old stock camera, which it could be from Amazon), then you may need to buy data from AT&T.

A picture of the box doesn’t tell us anything.

Here is a picture of a Spartan SIM that came with a new A4G.

I will reiterate what Johnny says. You must purchase data (cell) service. If you haven’t purchased a data plan (probably through Spartan, see instructions above, but possibly through AT&T if it’s old stock when they were shipping with AT&T SIMs rather than Spartan SIMs), that is probably why your camera doesn’t work.

Is the front of the actual SIM solid white with a little blue AT&T logo on it and the ICCID in tiny letters or does the front of the SIM have some other color on it (orange, green, blue)?

No, you’re not being stupid. We’re trying to get information to help you get your camera online. Johnny has to get up early in the morning so he’s gone to bed. You’re stuck with me. Sorry.

We’re asking these picky questions because this model used to ship with an AT&T Buy-A-Session SIM so you bought your data plan from AT&T. However, that has since changed and the cameras now ship with Spartan SIMs so you buy your data plan from Spartan.

We’ve had people in the past who were accustomed to buying data from AT&T get the new Spartan SIMs and buy data from AT&T. AT&T is happy to take money for the plan, but the camera with a Spartan SIM won’t run on an AT&T plan. It is a royal PITA to cancel the AT&T plan, get money back, and then be able to purchase a Spartan plan.

We’re just trying to figure out what you have so we can give you the right instructions. You don’t have any way of knowing all the ins and outs and pitfalls of a simple SIM.

Ok I got it. Sorry for the stupidity. I thought that the premium was to cheap. For data too.

No! That wasn’t stupidity. I can understand your misunderstanding, as well. That free premium credit goes back to when you bought data from AT&T (or Verizon or whoever) and you paid Spartan separately for the premium service. Unfortunately, it appears that the printed documents that came with your camera still mention that free premium credit when now you just buy both data and premium from Spartan instead of separately.

If you were using Verizon and putting the camera on your Verizon account, then you’d pay Verizon for your data on your cell phone plan and you’d pay Spartan separately for premium (so you can use the app and portal), $3-4/month (credit), depending on how many credits you buy at a time.

It’s simpler now that data and premium are bundled. You only have one account to keep track of, your data plan won’t died (as it does with AT&T if you don’t keep up with it), and you won’t run out of premium credits. Your data service and premium auto renew each month until you cancel.

Now can we help you set up your camera? Might be tomorrow as I am ready to get some sleep, as well, but we have advice for settings (are you familiar with photo + video? Scheduled events?). We want you to love your camera and get the most out of it.

I have basically the same issue.  I just bought a second camera. (first one has been working for 6 months)  I activated it and added it to my.spartancamera.com.  It shows up there and has taken one picture, but now will not pick up signal and says "Register network failed, please check you SIM Card and restart"  I have restarted several time and removed batteries and sim card and still get same error.  Any advice??  It is an AT&T 4G that i just received from spartan last week.
