Not getting SMS but getting email

Verizon is filtering messages treating them like spam so if your cell phone is Verizon that's why you're not getting pics to text. Are you saying your daily limit is set to 4? If that's the case you want that set to zero on the camera settings on the app.

The Spartan Camera manuals have cautioned against using text (picture mail) for at least 3 years now even though there were instructions for using that method. Only the app and email are supported.

You can use premium or the app or you can try the workaround below, which is NOT an official Spartan Camera suggestion.

    https://support.spartancamera.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360034852293-Workaround-for-filtered-texts-to-Verizon-phones-Gmail-forwarding-

BTW, the fact that Verizon is filtering messages is not a problem with the camera (or your previous delivery problem with email/SMS, nothing to do with the camera at all), nor is the daily limit. The cameras are finicky about SD cards, but the other things you mention, including battery issues, and those things cause problems with any cell camera.

ok, this is totally weird but

my delivery options are incorrect. for some crazy reason (maybe a typo on my part)

my delivery options are set to phonenumber@vzwpics.coom instead of vzwpix.com

I'm trying to change it and for the life of me, it does not update on the web portal. I only have one camera...and it's selected

what do i need to do to change it? i'm in the delivery options menu, it just wont let me update anything!!

    thanks

You have to change it in the email contacts section, not delivery options

Verizon is filtering messages. It is highly unlikely that using vzwpix is going to fix the problem. Verizon has been filtering picture messages for almost four weeks now.

May I suggest combining the delivery options/email contacts pages into one, fully editable page? the name of the page "email contacts" sounds like something else, like a "contact us" page or a "user contact info" page - which is why I kept overlooking it. You could make one page called "sending options" and have it editable there and then people like me (aka easily confused people) wont get super confused trying to edit one feature (sending options) that are located on two different pages

May I suggest being able to change from "auto" to "premium" via the web portal or the app? Seems like a parameter you could easily set up for remote commands?

I would also love to suggest being able to set up sending options (what you call email contacts) from the camera as well. Forgive me if it's something that's already there that I couldn't find.

Apologies for any tone of irritation on my end, I just didn't get images for months, my camera is remotely located, and it's not easy to go back and forth from the camera to the computer to troubleshoot. My batteries died out in the field and the camera settings were re-set from Premium to Auto, and I didn't notice that error when I put new batteries in and hung the camera back up.  I had to wait to go back to the camera to set it back to Premium (because it can't be done remotely) and wait to get back to a computer to re-set up the sending options. (because it can't be done at the camera?)  My phone app isn't working either, it is up to date, but it wont accept my current password, even though I'm logged in on the web portal with the same password. Anyway, most issues are resolved after three months. Thanks. It only took me two years to learn the fine details of this camera!! PHEW!! :)

Lisa, Like Liz and I mentioned earlier Verizon is filtering the pictures so there's a good chance even after you make the change that you still won't get the pictures texted to you. As far as your app not working, if you have an android phone go into the phones settings and then to apps and the Spartan app and do a force stop and clear the cache and see if that allows you to log in.

AT&T has had problems with texts off and on for several years. Use the workaround to send to gmail and forward to text if you must get text.

It's not the camera carrier it's your personal cell phone where the pictures are being texted to. If you personal cell phone is Verizon you probably aren't going to get text photos, ATT cell phones also have the problem off and on.

    Lisa,

The old 3G cameras like yours default to Auto, The cameras released in the last three years or so all default to Premium. I’m not sure I would have remembered to check that myself and I’m still running several of the old 3G models (Verizon, AT&T, US Cellular, and Sprint) but the remote ones are all on external batteries with solar panels so I haven’t had one die and reset.

SC is moving away from supporting emails so I don’t know whether they’ll combine the contacts page or not, but we can mention it to them. You used to be able to have up to 20, now I think it’s down to 5 and you can’t use phone numbers.

I think that allowing the switch from auto to premium or vice versa is being looked at, but the new cameras don’t take real time commands like the old ones do so I don’t know how you’d tell it to switch from Auto to Premium. Also, once you switch to premium, you have to register the camera and you have to have premium credits. There’s a whole lot of room for error in either direction, made worse by the fact that the camera isn’t in your hands. There’s no doubt in my mind that there would be a lot of user error and a lot of disabled cameras. It’s sometimes challenging enough to talk people through initial setup when they have their cameras in hand. Maybe there will be a way to do it but it’s probably a lot more complicated than it seems.

There’s room for only one send to in the camera (or in the new cameras, anyway) and you access it when the camera is in auto mode.

You could have accessed the portal/web site from your phone using a web browser. I know that’s not at all an ideal solution, but it can be done, so you could have done your settings while at the camera instead of waiting to get to your computer.

Does your password or email have any weird characters? If so, that may be causing your login problem.

BTW, are you planning to take advantage of the $250 upgrade to a 4G camera offer? Your camera will be sunsetting by the end of this year but you can get a replacement at a discount. The new cameras have faster trigger, brighter flash, and can transmit video as well as photos. If so, email support@spartancamera.com. It may take them a couple of days to get back to you.

I have asked that a note be put on the Delivery Options page that if you need to edit or change a contact, go to the Email Contacts page and make it a link. That probably wouldn’t require a lot of work, wouldn’t mess up the existing code. I don’t know if that will get done, but I did ask.

Thank you! I've fixed the password issue (that was my password chain's issue)
I'm going to upgrade to the 4G camera
    I'm getting SMS now!

Now to scratch my head some more, I did get about 5 images this month, delivered via SMS to my current verizon phone,
despite me having the incorrect address in email contacts. it was set to XXXXXXXXX@vzwpics.coom instead of vzwpix.com

weird, it should not have worked at all! Verizon's servers must have figured that one out, just not every time (driving me crazy) and causing me to troubleshoot incorrectly

    thanks for all your help

Verizon may very well have vzwpics.com registered as a domain as well. That’s more likely than Verizon figuring anything out. That probably isn’t the cause of your problems.
