Rechargeable AS batteries vs standard AS batteries

Which will have more battery life?

AA alkaline or rechargeable AA NiMH?

I don't want to set a battery box or solar panel as this is a construction site and can't install them without drawing unwanted attention to the setup.

  Alkalines will last longer than rechargeables, but with the rechargeables, you can recharge them. Alkalines may be a problem in cold weather. The longest lasting batteries are Lithiums.
