    The camera has to check in to the server at least once a day to make sure there's no tasks or changes that it needs to address. For those customers that use premium credits that are separate from their data plans it allows the camera to check in and update even if the camera ran out of credits so that it knows if more were purchased. It also keeps the camera checking in in case the sensitivity is turned off either intentionally or accidentally or if there's a minor SD card issue that keeps the camera from sending pictures and a format is requested. Without that daily check in you would have to go to the camera to make the changes and  adjustments that I mentioned and for many people that is not a simple and quick thing to do.
