If it's a Verizon 3g camera there's something going on with Verizon and 3g

It’s a spartan cam with Verizon service. But I’m not sure if it’s a Verizon 3g cam. Is there something in the model number that would indicate that?

That’s a Verizon 3G and we are investigating but it’s beginning to look like Verizon may have flipped the switch on 3G service.

Which would mean what going forward ?

That means that the Verizon 3G cameras will no longer work as cell cameras.

In June 2018, Verizon announced that they were shutting down 3G service no later than 12/31/2019. Somewhere along the line, they had a change of heart and pushed that back to 12/31/2020. However, that is not "3G will be available until 12/31/2020", that is "3G will be completely shut down by 12/31/2020 but we are shutting down service in some places before that."

So the spartan cam I have is no longer a cellular cam? Or it can be if I switch networks to something other then Verizon?

We don't know yet. But you can't make a Verizon camera work on another network and even if you could there probably aren't any carriers activating new 3G devices. While your camera isn't new, it would be new-to-another-network.

I’m having the same problem with a brand new att camera. Just put it out Monday- it sent 7 pictures immediately and then nothing since then in the last 24 hours.

Micheal, yours is going to be a different issue, can you start a new thread so we don't get things mixed up between the problems please.

So what I'm reading is I paid 300.00 a yr ago and now my cellular camera is not going to be a cellular camera? What is spartan going to do about this?

Ryan is your camera a 3g Verizon? Spartan hasn't sold them for a very long time, many years actually.

    Ryan,

If you paid $300 for a camera a year ago, your camera is a 4G camera, not a 3G camera, and you are not affected. You have a different problem. The last Verizon 3G cameras were sold in summer 2018 at a steep discount and they included data service through the end of last year. I don't know what was done for service after that, maybe the purchasers bought data plans after that.

Please start your own post. What model camera? Please post a screen shot of the status report from the app for your camera. You may have to switch your phone browser to the desktop view of this site in order to do that.

We'll be happy to help you troubleshoot but we need to keep your information separate from Brian's and Michael's.

Ryan the model number is probably on the sticker or the information screen. It should start with a GC, G or W.

I have 3 Spartan 3G cameras and they stopped working for me yesterday; same for a buddy of mine. If you find that Verizon has flipped the switch, please let us know.

Scott, it does look like Verizon is starting to shut down some 3g devices, we are looking into exactly what/when is happening

Will we be compensated for the useless premium credits in our accounts that were previously purchased?

Brian, you can send an email and ask but I doubt it. Verizon has been warning of the shut down for a very long time and was supposed to shut down at the end of 2019 and extended it, Spartan has sent out emails since 2018 about the 3g sunset as well. There is a discount being offered to customers with 3g cameras for anyone who wants to upgrade to 4g, $250 for a standard model, $260 for a whiteflash and $320 for the Ghost. You also get to keep the 3g and can use it as a standard, non cell camera.
