failure to update pics in Android app
Worked fine for almost a year: I get a notification, I use it to open the app, I see the new pic. I have a long driveway (over half a mile) and I used to see who was coming before they arrived. Not any more!
Starting a week or two ago, I still get the notification but sometimes the app doesn't show me the new pic(s). Not on the three-thumbs page, not on the all-pics page. Once or twice it was on the all-pics page but NOT on the three-thumbs page. Odd. Pulling down to refresh either of those pages almost never works. What works is to go to app settings and clear the cache, then restart the phone. Usually doesn't help to just clear the cache or close and re-open the app. Most of the time I have to restart the phone. Meanwhile the photo has arrived by email, so I'm sure it's NOT the cameras!
Problem does not seem related to the Aug 12 update I did, but it might be. App Version 3.4.13, Model SM-G973U, 52GB free space.

I'm assuming you mean 32gb cards in the camera. Try this process and see if it helps. At the end the app should ask you to log in again.
Go into the phone settings (not the app) and go to apps and the Spartan app. Click on storage and you'll see a box to click to clear the cache and another to clear the data/storage, clear both of those and then uninstall and reinstall the app. Before the app opens clear the cache and data/storage again and then open the app and log in. You should be good to go now.

No, the 52GB is free space in phone memory, as reported by the app.
Clearing the cache doesn't work. Check. But it's the only non-nuclear-war option.
Clearing the data removes both cameras and logs me out. Clearing the data is fatal! NO recovery possible. NO login button. LogOUT button remains! Add Camera option remains. App is useless and must be uninstalled.
If one clears the data, one is forced to uninstall and reinstall before being allowed to log back in. At least doing that restored my cameras (didn't have to add them again).
Too soon to tell if reinstalling fixed the problem, but it's unacceptable to have an app loose its way and REQUIRE external reset.

Steven, sometimes things need a reset, no different than restarting your phone. As long as you don't log in to a different account you won't lose anything. To do this correctly you need to clear cache & data/storage and then uninstall and reinstall. It's very important that before the app opens at all (even once) that you go back and clear the cache and storage/data again. Then open the app and log back in. Sometimes the cache already shows as clear after the reinstall.
Depending on your phone there's two other things you can do/check. Again go into the phone settings and to the app. Under battery there are some options, you want to turn off battery optimization. Some phones also have a setting to allow the app to run in the background, check your phone and see if that is an option as well.

Your cameras are associated with your account, not with the app. Clearing data/storage/cache both BEFORE uninstalling and AFTER reinstalling will not affect the cameras or pictures on your account at all. Johnny and I are testers so we uninstall/reinstall many times. I’m running nearly 40 cameras and never lose cameras or photos/videos.
Here’s a Knowledge Base article that documents everything Johnny has mentioned.

Thanks for the rapid responses!!
To confirm my experience today:
- Clearing the cache did nothing.
- Clearing the data made my cameras vanish from the app.
- Clearing the data logged me out.
- Clearing the data left a Log OUT button even though I was already logged out. No Log IN option anywhere. BUG!
- Clearing the data requires uninstall and reinstall. Period. No way to log back in.
- After re-installing, logging in restored both cameras in the app. (no need to add cameras again, which was my fear)
- After re-installing, old pics that previously displayed as only black squares are again visible.
- After re-installing, at least for 10 hours or so, the problem has not recurred. So the faster solution is to simply uninstall and reinstall. That also does not leave one in an undefined state.
Perhaps there SHOULD be a log in button after clearing the data, but in my case there was not. I'll never do that again.

Uninstalling *DOES* delete *ALL* data associated with *ANY* app. Your post doesn't reflect reality.
Anyway, that's *NOT* the problem.
The *BUG* is that clearing data *REMOVES* the login button. I was logged out, and presented with *ONLY* a button to log out again. No way to log in. So clearing the data locked the app and I had to uninstall it. See how that's a bug?

If the procedure is followed step by step in the correct order the log in button will be there when the app is opened for the first time after reinstall and the second cache/data clearing. Sometimes just clearing one or the other or reinstalling will work but depending on where the issue is it might not.
Also uninstalling does not clear EVERYTHING about the app. That why sometimes you can remove an app and then reinstall it and not have to log in again. That's apps in general, not just the Spartan app.

Camera is doing great! Photos arrived by email and visible on your website, just the app was failing to show new ones or old ones. Now using the beta version and haven't seen the problem there.
I didn't want to uninstall and start over, but that was the solution. Apps shouldn't lock you out when you clear the data, and clearing the cache should be enough to reset the connection to the mother ship. That's now my other apps work.
Anyway, this problem has a work-around if not a solution. Hopefully the posts above will help someone else!

Steve, email support and let them know what's going on. I'm not sure if anyone is working on it or not. I haven't really heard much about this being a problem. They may want you to send them the app logs.
