GoCam solar power
Our GoCam is a few years old and we recently purchased the solar panel and external battery package. I expected with the external battery the AA batteries would not be needed, but are they? The DC input is directly under the control panel, so you have to close the camera and lock it in order to plug in the external battery. Which means you can't go thru the setup mode because there is no power (no AA's). All you can do is move the switch all the way to ON, close it, then plug in the external battery...but then nothing happens. Am I missing something? Any advice would be appreciated.

The camera should power on and get on the network the way you describe. However, I run four low self discharge rechargeable batteries (two top, two bottom, left side) in my old style cameras so I can put them in setup, take/send a manual photo, then turn them on, close the case, plug the power cable in, and walk test. You can also use lithium, but I don’t recommend alkaline because they are likely to leak.
