All night pictures are too dark to make out any detail,

Been that way since new. Takes me a long time to get mad, I guess. Flash is on high, backdrop is maybe 40' away, deer walk right by it. Daytime pics, when the deer aren't moving, are of course fine.  It matters not where I put it, which direction I aim it, whether there is a close backdrop or not, the flash just won't work.

  Can you please post a couple of example night photos? 

  Have you gotten in touch with tech support about this? If the camera has a flash problem, support needs to help you with that. We can help with settings, SD cards, and that sort of thing, but not with actual hardware problems.

  Have you tried requesting an “HD photo” when you get one? It’s the same as requesting videos and the tab is right next to it
