SR1 camera sending pics using data instead of text
Hi,
Has anyone got an older camera to work with BuyASession or Spartan wireless service? I have a number of older SR1 AT&T 3G cameras, so they're aren't GoCams. When I was looking at our cell service bills I realized that the AT&T pay as you go (paygoonline.com) plans are way higher than the Buy A Session or the Spartan wireless subscription fees.
I put an active BuyASession SIM in one of my SR1s and changed delivery to Internet in the settings, but wasn't able to send a picture to my gmail. I messed around with the SMTP settings but wasn't able to get it to work.
Thanks for any help anyone might have,
Rob

I don’t have an SR1 to try. Your best bet is to contact support. Support@spartancamera.com or 770-582-0004 9 AM - 6 PM Eastern M-F.

Did you try that BAS SIM without changing settings in the camera? What are the choices?
You can try entering your phone number with the carrier suffix. If your phone is AT&T, enter your phone number (just the 10 digits, no 1 at the beginning) followed by @mms.att.net and see if that will work as an email address.

Thanks I'll try that tomorrow (I don't have the camera with me right now).
But the settings are Send Via: MMS or Internet. Then if you chose the Internet option, you get a new screen to enter SMTP server settings: username, password, server name, port. I think I got those all correct, but it could also be that Gmail is blocking it. I was reading that they sometimes do that for older devices because of security concerns. Found a setting in gmail, "Access allowed for less secure apps," but that didn't work either. I'm also going to try a non-gmail address too.Thank you again for your help!

I looked into this a little and if you don't have the premium option as a setting on the cameras menu then you will need a firmware update. After that you can use buy a session but it's a little tricky what would be easier is to use Spartan Data which will require a Spartan SIM card.

Yes for several reasons, the main reason is it will be much easier to get the plan running with the Spartan Data, secondly once it is up and running the Spartan plans include the premium credits so you won't need to get the data from ATT and the premium credits from Spartan separately. Another advantage to the Spartan plans is they auto renew when they expire, the ATT buy a session sends you an email 30 minutes before your plan expires and then you have to log on and buy more data.
