External battery power

When you got your camera hooked to external batteries does your power level on pictures tell the power level of that or of your12 aa batteries? And can you just run regular lithium batteries in them?

  The power level is of whichever power source has the higher voltage. The camera uses the source with higher voltage. Yes, you can run with just internal AA batteries (lithium, rechargeable, or alkaline.
