New camera lasted an hour
Bought a new gocam from uscellular today. Brought it home and set it up. Did some test pics in the kitchen. Worked great. Took it to the field strapped it to the tree, and it won’t turn on. Changed the batteries, still nothing. Feel like for the kind of money this thing cost it should last more than an hour. Very disappointing. Ideas?

Are you using a name brand (e.g., SanDisk), class 10 (not 4 or 6), preferably 80 MB/s, standard size (not microSD/adapter), 32 G or less capacity SD card, formatted in the camera?
Is the firmware current? (Look on the status report page in the app.)
You’re right, the camera should last way more than an hour. Your best bet is probably to see if US Cellular will swap this one out for another new one if you can’t get this one working.

No external power source. When I turn the switch to setup or on, nothing happens. The screen doesn’t come on and the green light doesn’t light up. I had updated the firmware prior to leaving the house. Is it possible this is what messed it up? I’m apprehensive about trading for a different new one. Wondering if I should just get my money back and go with a different brand.
Thank you for the replies. Appreciate your help. -
jmcitta,
As with anything, you occasionally get something that is DOA. Spartan is the only camera that works on the US Cellular network.
It may be a good idea to try a manual firmware update, just in case something went wrong with the earlier one. Here’s the page where you find the firmware files to download. The instructions are below the table that lists the firmwares.

You will use the instructions for manual firmware update for cameras that don’t have FW update in the menu. Your camera does, but in order to use that, the camera has to come up. You will hold down the playback button while you turn the camera to setup and continue to hold it until you see “no image”, then you will release the button and then press it again. You should see information on the screen and the camera will restart eventually.
