Won't turn off

I haven't used my camera in 6 months so just put in new batteries and adjusted the setting and took a few pics. I turned it off in preparation to take it to the woods and it wont turn off and gives an audible beep once in a while. Any suggestions? Off, setup, and on are all the same, it just stays on.

    That sounds like a switch problem. If the camera is not under warranty, you can try to fix the switch. You’ll need a can of electronics contact cleaner.

    Batteries OUT of the camera.

    First, put some tape across the ON/OFF switch and the buttons to keep them attached to the inside cover. (It won’t hurt if you don’t, but those two parts will separate from the cover and it’s easier to deal with the thee pieces as one.)

    Then unscrew the four tiny screws (one in each corner) that hold the inside cover to the outside cover and remove the cover.

    Squirt the contact cleaner inside the switch then move the switch back and forth quickly a bunch of times. Let the contact cleaner dry, put four batteries in (two top, two bottom, left bay) and turn the switch to setup. See if it will come on and then go off. If it does, reassemble it. If it doesn’t, remove batteries and try more cleaner.

    Did your camera ever get stuck on again? My 3g will not go off but when I put the switch in the on position it will work.
    My 4g will not arm or take pictures, it acts like it in the setup position regardless of if it is in on, setup, or off.

    Cancel all pending commands if you have any and try defaulting the camera. Formatting the SD card can't hurt either. If the switch is still acting up then turn it off and on a bunch of times really fast.

    Mike, if the camera is still under warranty then you definitely don't want to open it up. Try working the switch really well and if that doesn't work then contract tech support. Was the camera sitting unused for a little while?
