Can I use a 12 volt external battery with my GoCam Z4Gb2? Will it fry it?

  The Z4 is a 6 volt camera so you do NOT want to use a 12v battery.

  Spartan sells a battery box that you can put a 12v battery in and it reduces it to 6 volts for the camera. What size battery do you have (ah's?)

  I have a HME solar battery with a bigger 12v battery that I got for a Spypoint, but Spypoint won't work where I need to use it. And, they suck...

  I have a 12v 18ah battery in mine and get 6 months, over 8000 transmitted pictures and a couple hundred videos on a single battery charge.

  It’s pricey but it has the circuitry so that you can use either a 6V or 12V battery on the 6V cameras and it also has the circuitry to handle a solar panel properly. It has a nice panel that shows charging mAh, battery voltage, and other things.

  You might talk to Mike about it, it says input voltage up to 30V.

  Just make sure that you only have 6 volts getting to the camera. It's a 2watt panel so it's going to depend on how much activity you have as to if it's going to keep up. Please let us know how it works out.

  What is the minimum ah needed to operate my 6v camera? I'm guessing those 6v 4.5ah batteries won't work, or will they?

  They will work but they aren't going to last all that long. Most people use the 6v, 12ah batteries.

  No John I am not using a solar panel in conjunction with the battery. The current set up has about a 2 month battery life before needing to be recharged. I also use the same set up with a Jager Pro camera and they do not recommend a solar panel because it will create a memory in the battery.
