Battery Power Fluctuation

My cameras keep jumping from P5 to P3 to P5. I have an external battery hooked up but no solar charger. Could it be reading the AA’s charge and not the external sometimes? The latest status report is back up to 5.7 volts up from 5.1. Its also been subzero temps overnight here in MN.

  Temperature can definitely effect battery power. Also night pics can show lower voltage because the flash is used. If it's fluctuating it will pretty soon be at P3 all the time and need batteries changed soon.

  Question, if the AA’s are at 5.1 and I change the external battery, will it continue to show a low battery reading? Will it still run off the external until that’s dead and then go to the AA’s?

  It runs off whichever source has the higher voltage so it can switch back and forth between the two. It will report the voltage of whatever source it’s using.
