Requesting Videos
Good Day,
Just purchased a GoCam Ghost GC-G4GB. I am having problems with the camera sending me video's ive requested them multiple times and turned powersaving mode off. Is there anyway to get videos sooner? For the price I would've thought this camera would work much better than it does. So far less than impressed compared to something 300$ cheaper that does a live feed. Thanks for any input.

The power save off and on won't change how fast you get the videos. What happens is you request the videos and the camera doesn't send them until the next time it checks in sending a picture or video. You can set up some scheduled events throughout the day so you have set times that you know the camera will check in even if there's no activity in front of it. That goes for any request or update you ask of the camera.

I read somewhere on here about sending a text to the number of the device. *500#. I tried that as well it just gives me a status update and a picture but still won’t send me videos I requested. So the only way to get a video is to wait for another schedule event? Sounds like a poor design if you want to use it as a security camera. Guess phone support that I talked to prior to buying gave me bad advice.

If you request the videos and then text to get the picture I would think it should send the videos after the picture. If it doesn't look at the status report page on the app and scroll down to the bottom and tap the arrow to expand the commands screen and see what it says at the far right, most likely it will say complete or still pending. You will need power save off for this to work and it has to be kept off, you can just turn it on and have the camera respond instantly. Does the camera send the requested videos after it sends a picture? The text command to get a picture is not a Spartan suggested feature, it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't depending on your phone carrier, type of cell plan for the camera and camera cell carrier in relation to your phone carrier.

After I text the number it says complete on the video request but I receive nothing. It took a picture at 1100 after I received the picture I requested the video. After I requested the video I sent the text message to the phone number I received another picture the status changed to completed for the video yet I never received the video. Just another picture and a status update.

That's correct if it's set to photo+video, you would see 34-36-38-40-42........The one number is the picture the next missing number would be the video if unrequested. Like Liz mentioned this does happen sometimes and it is being worked on. Since the pics seem to be numbered correctly and you are getting the completed message in the command history it sounds like the camera is working fine just for some reason the videos aren't getting through. If the camera is for security only and the video only setting works for you it may be the way to go until the engineers figure out what is happening.

The texting feature is still in the programming but it's probably going to go away because there's too many problems with it that are out of Spartans control. The carriers change things and it sometimes messes up that communication, especially if your cell phone isn't the same carrier as the camera, then add in roaming/using other carriers towers and it's just not a reliable feature. With the 3g cameras it wasn't an issue like it is with 4g. The new live stream camera coming out should eliminate the need for a lot of the on demand requests.

Andrew,
The live stream cameras aren't even in the field yet for testing and there is still development work left to do. That's from a conversation I had this morning with the guy who's leading the development work. If those cameras were ready for the market, there would be nothing to be gained by delaying the release. They will be for sale as soon as they are ready.
Text control is not supported and can stop working at any time. The code was left in but it hasn't been updated or modified in quite some time and the fact that it works at all is strictly accidental.
