3G service shutdown?
-
Brian,
Finally, a voice of reason! I know everyone is frustrated, and rightfully so. Everyone who has one of these Verizon 3G cameras has to have been hoping that they'd make it to the middle or end of December. I've felt like mine were a ticking time bomb since the first of the year, hoping that they'd make it to the end of the year, but prepared for the day when they'd just die. Every day they worked seemed like a miracle. Several times I have thought to myself that I was surprised I was still getting pictures.
Next year, I will be preparing for the AT&T 3G shutdown, and making sure that all critical locations have 4G cameras in them. Because of these dead Verizons, I'll be unretiring some ATTxb, but I'm going to use 4G IMEI for their data plans so I can move the SIMs to 4G cameras when the time comes.
It just doesn't make sense to take a chance on old technology that you know has a sunset date for critical situations.
All I can do is sympathize/empathize. We get so spoiled to our technology and anyone using a 3G camera has been using it for a while.
Even if we could get the cameras back up, there's no telling how long it would be before they'd go down again. I'm expecting the handful that are still running to shut down at any moment.
