After tapping notification the new thumbnails are not displayed on android app home page

After tapping a notification the new thumbnails are not displayed on android app home page. I have to do a long swipe down the phone screen to refresh and then the new thumbnails are displayed. Before the last update I didn't need to swipe down on the screen for the new thumbnails to display. You can't select "Mark all photos as Viewed" unless the  new thumbnails show on the home page.
