What problems did support find with your cameras?

There’s both an art and a science to positioning cameras. I’m running several GoLives, including two monitoring traffic on a forestry road that passes our camp. Without seeing pics from your cameras, there’s no way to tell whether there is a likely explanation for cavorting deer no5 being photographed.

It has nothing to do with the position.
Loved them when i thought they were working correctly. But from countless reformats... like i just had to do for the minimum 10th time and replaced the compromised SD cards that work fine in my other cameras... and yes the recommended cards. I just have gave up on calling and sending back and reformatting, buying credits , auto renewal that is the only option to even buy service so you dont miss pictures which come to find out happens anyways that i see with my own 2 eyes on every hunt, sending my 1st golive back due to an issue that a new one was sent back to having to send that 1 back because it wouldnt work with the solar panel and the ghost cam had a similar issue...so many things i just cant get past all the dumb stuff. Not to mention i just had to go through a cancel my service and restart my service because tbe auto pay wasnt the service i needed. Maybe a 24hr clock to change the auto payment to what you want instead of having 24hrs to cancel or you DONT get a refund... should be the correct option. Which while deer are standing in front of the camera it goes silent after i change the above stated mess... reformat again. The more and more pics that was taken it seemed like the less it worked properly. Dont get me started on the useless golive feature.. freezes everytime if you can even get it to turn on... signal isnt the issue...heard that before.
Its just the same on going nightmares.
Oh yeah and the threaded brass button stripping out gettin the steel case stuck on the camera... that was awesome.
I could go on and on. I would love for these to work as advertised...they just dont. Navigating the policies is seriously ridiculous, send the camera back at your cost for a problem, auto renewal is a joke, wait for said dept to recontact you for the issue your having?
Its just compiling to be so frustrating spending alot of money to save you time and actually just consumes a worse evil of frustrations and time.
App doesnt work worth a poo. Have shut it down and reopen to get pics i can view.. my head hurts . I need some sleep to go hunting in the am... Because I HAVE TO BE THERE to see whats going on.

It certainly sounds like you’ve had a lot of problems. I’m not sure I can even sort out in my mind what has happened after reading all that.

I’ve not had any of the problems you mention with my GoLives and I’m in a mediocre signal area. Ditto with my Ghosts.

I’m not sure what your complaint is with auto renewal. Before there was auto renewal, people would get upset when their cameras quit working because they forgot to renew. You can now cancel a plan before it expires but have it expire on the normal date.

I’m running the app on two iPads and an Android phone, all of which I use daily. A family member has it on two Android phones and an iPad. While there are people reporting problems with the app on the FB page from time to time, following the troubleshooting steps usually resolves the problem. I’m hesitant to suggest that but I will post a link to the instructions in case you want to try.

Auto renewal is fine... the 24hrs to cancel or your stuck is backwards.
24hrs to pick your renewal before its auto completed should be the option.
In my case for example i had to do the annoying process of cancel, request a refund and resubscribe because my original season purchase was a 6 month plan. 38 days left in my season.
I get the whole no pic problem for cutting out service , but the 24hr to cancel or your screwed shouldnt be.
Add to the list i was sent the wrong security box for my Golive on my orginal purchase. Antenna window was on the opposite side. At home testing didnt require a security box, that was a pleasant suprise when putting it up in the field.
Renewal thing would probably not be a complaint if there wasnt so many other issues but still think a 24hr heads up would stop auto renewal issues and save both ends time.
Renewal is needed within 24hrs if there are any changes please do so or your last plan will be auto renewed.
    Something like that.

When you sign up for a plan, you have to check a box that says that you understand that the current plan will autorenew unless you cancel it before you can actually complete the purchase. (I know because I just agreed to that six times earlier this month.)

I don't know how the timing for cancellation was determined, but there's no good way to handle prorating further into the plan.

Not good about the security box.

Well aware of that box that you have to check to even checkout. That falls under the dumb policy as stated above.
I try every time to check out without agreeing to any of it hoping it will work. It doesnt. Maybe the techs that right the policies that never fail should work on the cameras... now theres an idea.

The techs don't write the policies.

Try checking out from any online business without agreeing to the policies. AT&T BAS has a policy that I have to check every time I check out with it. Those policies don't auto renew. Caused lots of problems with users until Spartan started offering plans that do autorenew. Now people don't have cameras that go down when the data plan ends unless their credit card info has changed.

You have to monitor your data usage. I'm not sure whether your plan ended after 6 months or whether it ended because it was out of data, just that it ended with 38 days left in your season. Some people are running 50 or 80 or 100 cameras. The default of autorenewal is a positive for most people. I think there would be complaints if people had to choose their autorenewal option every time but who knows?

Have you uninstalled/reinstalled the app? You didn't say, just that you had to close/open it.

I hope you find cameras that work the way you think they should. You definitely have problems, but I'm not sure you'd be happy even if you hadn't had any problems.

    Lol... there it is.
Typical response when there product doesnt function as its supposed to.
I would been happy with a product that functions as advertised. Which you admitted as well.... THEY DO NOT.
So i will be stuck with junk and speak the truth about it. Dont take it personal... there just junk.

There are plenty of customers who will tell you that their Ghosts and GoLives are functioning as advertised. There was a recent question on the FB page where someone was considering a purchase and asked whether the GoLive is legit and there were lots of positive comments, some from people who are running a lot of them. I don't remember any negative comments, but there might have been one or two.

Do people have trouble with them? Occasionally, but it doesn't seem to be the situation that you are in.

I don't know how you've managed to get two or three cameras (or however many you have) that don't. It seems very odd.

My comment is strictly because I don't think that you will ever be happy with the cameras or the system. I wish that weren't the case, but unfortunately, I think that it is. One example is autorenewal. I would be surprised if it's ever changed to work the way that you want it to, but who knows? You can send email to feedback@spartancamera.com and suggest the changes you'd like to see.

I'm a camera test team member. I've asked about your support history but haven't heard back yet. I don't think your situation is funny at all. I'm concerned and am trying to find out what I can about it.

Have you noticed that no customers have commented despite your invitation that they do so?

Nobody has commented on my post as i read alot of the negative posts started by other customers and never commented on them.
I gave it a chance and jumped through the hoops and tried them and gave them a fair shake. Someone who runs 50 or 100s as you say dont have the means to watch the performance or lack there of. Ive had these for awhile and im super frustrated at the amount i paid to not have to be there as claimed but have no confidence in them at all now. Im sure there are happy people out there. This is my experience with your product. If there defective then i guess im just lucky. Hope they give you my old RMAs and you will see that i have sent back multiple times, July and August. If i wasnt willing to try them or want them i wouldnt have went through all these "policies" on paying out of pocket to send them back.
I have been patient and willing to try all that was asked of me. So for you finding something hard to believe is an insult if you dont know the facts. So do your fact research and try and believe that these issues arent fabricated and are probably more common then you know. Believe it or not. Im stuck with them so this post was ment for customers or maybe people thinking of buying to see what they have coming from your end. This isnt thie 1st nor will be the last post were you say the same ol BS that is " i dont think you would have been happy no matter what" i read that comment from support on another posts. Unprofessional and im glad it has been duplicated yet again.
As for policy changes i couldnt give a poo if they change.... companies right policies all the time that are beneficial for them and rightfully so... its business to make money, if it was about customer satisfaction i wouldn't be typing.
You win im stuck with these and will have to unfortunately keep using them and wondering what i missed.

I am not saying that your issues are fabricated. I don't believe that for a minute. I'm just not sure why you are unlucky with all your cameras. That stinks. I am trying to find out what support has on file for your cameras.

I said that about not being satisfied because that's how I feel about some other cameras that I've used (and plenty of other products, as well). Several years ago, I tried a Snyper Commander to see what all the hype was about. Lots of people loved them, but it just wasn't the camera for me. That's not a slam on that brand/model of camera, it just didn't have the features that were important to me. You're reading something into a comment that I don't mean that way at all. We all want what we want and like what we like. Something that one person loves is the same thing that another person can't stand. I don't care how delicious someone's special banana pudding is, I want nothing to do with it.

I have a couple of pricey Reconyx license plate cameras monitoring both directions on a dead end road, along with two GoLives. Sunday morning, my GoLives sent pics of a vehicle going both directions (each GoLive took a picture of the vehicle going to the turnaround and coming back out). Neither license plate camera triggered on that vehicle going in either direction even though they took pics of every other vehicle that passed that morning. Those are cameras specifically designed to take photos of vehicles traveling up to 50 MPH, unlike the GoLives, which are designed to catch mammals moving at much slower speeds and yet they missed four trigger opportunities.

I know from running four cameras within just a few yards of each other monitoring the same small area that every one of those four cameras sometimes misses something. They're not 100% although they are close.

I run over 30 cell cams at any given time. I have a couple that I know don't perform the way I'd like them to and I know why. They're the first 4G cameras that Spartan released and the comm module in them isn't as robust as the later models, especially in a low signal area like where mine are. I'm pretty confident with the rest of my cameras though.

Much better response. And thank you for not escalating it to cheap shots.
I received 10k pics in like a month and a half. Which i was super pleased until the 1st sit and realized that i was missing alot of pics. Slow moving, fast moving, exaggerated deer doing cartwheels in front of it. I dont need to repeat how many of the compromised SD cards ive had and even went into detail with a tech at where they had been made actually matters. I cant make this up. Ive tried and im frustrated is all. Im stuck till January 1st with these. I switched from another brand that was ok . Like all the features of spartan is why i chose them over everyone else. You want them January 1st i can throw them in a box and you can have at it. Tell me there fine and im crazy. I see what i see watching them miss photos in the same spot they take sometimes. I dont think i can say how many it takes without sounding ridiculous...but its alot. Just dont like that deer walk by slow ,fast , and stand there for 10 min and walk off with no photo. Thats all im upset about. Not features, not dumb policies... which anytime you here policy from someone its because said policy usually isnt favoring tbe party being told that.
Get me an RMA for these on Jan 1st or i can just sit here all pissy till next year when im probably like you say...find out another brand probably doesnt perform at 100% as well.

I don’t know if you’ve seen this before, apologies if you have. This is an explanation of detection from one model of Reconyx. Some people have said that this has helped them understand how camera detection works. Spartan detection zones aren’t identical, but the concept is the same.

I’ve already explained how two LP cameras failed to trigger both times on one vehicle that went past in both directions. Why they took pics of every other vehicle that went by that day (both before and after the one they missed) but missed that one, I don’t know. I’m not going to worry about it, either. (And these are law enforcement-grade cameras.)

You’ll have to get your own RMA, I can’t get it for you. You’ll have to send them to GA. (I’m not located in GA.)

I feel pretty comfortable with my ability to set the cameras up to optimize how they take pics but I don’t think you’re interested in the articles I wrote about that, with examples, so I won’t bore you with the links.

You probably already know all this, but just in case. (These are for Ghosts and GoCams since those crop top and bottom of frame for video. GoLive is easier to set because there’s no cropping. You’re probably not guilty of this, but so many times I see photos from cameras that are set/aimed too high, which half or more of the frame being sky/trees where there aren’t any deer, turkeys, or hogs.)

    Good luck with your hunt!

I’ve had great luck with every Spartan I’ve bought, including Ghost. But, I’ve gotten 2 different GoLive cameras in 10 days. I’ve tried to take probably 100 of test pics and I’ve had 1 pictures that sent. I’ve done FW updates on both. The Hello option sometimes works and other times says System is busy. I’ve used brand new SD cards right out of the boxes, formatted them and still can’t get a test pic to send. I’m beginning to think that the GoLive was a bad purchase.

If the hello test works then the camera is communicating. Are you doing the firmware updates manually loading the Firmware on to an SD card and putting it in the camera and going to update firmware in the cameras menu? Did you see it successfully update on the screen?

Also the SD cards are full sized, class 10, 80 mbs or faster and not micros in adapters correct? Also 128gb or smaller and formatted in the camera?

And the SD cards are either Spartan brand or SanDisk Ultra/Ultra Plus, not ImageMate or Extreme and not PNY, HME, ONN or other brand.

The cards are SanDisk 32G U3 10. I did the FW update with my computer. And it went through the 3 phases and said OK on all and it rebooted itself. The message on the camera when trying to send a pic says File Uploading and usually has a 20 something percentage. It tries and then says Failed. When it finally sent one, I thought I had it. But I tried until 1:30 in the morning and never got another one to go through. I’ve format every time I restart the camera.

Sandy, do you have any other SD cards to try even if they aren't perfectly to spec?

U3 sounds like an Extreme/Extreme Pro. I tried using those and had problems from the start so I quit using them. I know others who've tried them in Spartan cameras and also had problems.

You said that the Hello test works only sporadically. I don't think I've ever seen system busy for Hello test. It should either say Successful or Failed.

Have you defaulted the camera after the firmware update? That sometimes resets the APN. I'm wondering if the camera is struggling because of the APN setting. What's the carrier for the camera?

I do. I’ve tried 3 different cards. The only pic that was sent was a new PNY 64G U3 10. I’ve had 10 different Spartan cameras work flawlessly for 6 years. Currently running 5. I’m at a loss on these GoLive. Can’t wrap my head around it. I feel bad because I sent the other one back and told the folks at Standish Milling Co they sent me a bad camera so they sent me a new one. LOL

Do you have any vanilla SanDisk Ultra class 10 U1 80 MB/s or thereabouts, 16 or 32G? That PNY is a known problem brand and U3 is a known problem.

It usually says system busy but after a restart and several tries it finally says successful. It’s a Verizon and I have defaulted the camera after the update.

Johnny says that you're trying the Hello test when the camera is not connected to the network so that explains system busy. I never try Hello test unless I know camera is connected to the network because I know the Hello test can't do anything unless the camera is connected so it never occurred to me that that was what was happening.

This is what I found out today. I went to 4 different counties around me today. I took my Ghost and the new GoLive. Went to 4 different cell towers. Tried 4 different brand new SD cards. And both custom settings and auto. The Ghost, which has taken over 33,000 pictures, worked flawlessly. The GoLive worked on 1 out of the 4 towers. This is clearly a Spartan GoLive issue. And I know customer service is busy. But an email back shouldn’t be that difficult.
