Ghost Cam lithium power drain

You don't need to charge the internal battery. What does the status report give you for the internal and external voltages?

Johnny’s asking that question because fresh lithiums will show over 10V. The engineers need to tweak the battery reports because over 10V makes the camera think it’s using a depleted 12V battery rather than fresh lithiums. With the Ghost for now, ignore the battery symbol and pay attention to the voltages.

No one told me that the engineers had to " tweak " the batteries.  The batteries are expensive and I already trashed 12. I will have to go back to the field and put new batteries in the camera to get any readings.

The engineers aren’t tweaking the batteries. They need to tweak the battery REPORT. Your lithiums aren’t dead until they go somewhere below 9V. Ignore the battery symbol, it will show empty with fresh batteries because they will be over 10V and the battery report thinks they are an external 12V and low, rather than full lithiums that are high.

Are you sure your batteries were dead in two days? What was the voltage? Just pay attention to the voltage.

    Sorry for my misunderstanding..

I assume they are bad the camera quit working when the battery strength indicator went back to red.

I meant tweeking the battery reports not tweaking the batteries...typo😱

The more I think about it , I would like to return the Ghost camera , I want to go back to the GC-Z4Gb because I can run a 110 power cord to it and not have to deal with the batteries. How do I go about returning the camera and getting a refund ??

    Thank you

You would have to get in touch with whomever you bought it from to see about a return. You should be able to run a power cord to the Ghost too, I just don't think they have any in stock yet. I'm sure you could find a 12v AC adapter with the correct size plug. Would just have to find out what the minimum amps the camera requires and make sure the adapter puts out at least that many amps.

I bought the camera via sparton.com and I called yesterday and a lady who worked there told me that you could not use a 110 power convertor on the ghost cam that it was not 110 compatible only solar and battery pack could be used. The online manual does not mention a 110 converter being used.

I'll find out the details, I don't see why you can't. The battery meter might not read correctly but that won't matter if it's plugged in.

I am going to double check the spent batteries on a different model Spartan to confirm if they are actually bad.

I would put them back in the ghost and request a status report and see what voltage it gives you.

Batteries showed full charge in old Spartan camera. I have lost faith in this ghost cam.  When the ghost was cam  initially powered up it had the low battery power light on and the battery power indicator after time went to full power and the camera worked fine then the battery power light went to low power and camera quit working and I never touched the camera to cause anything to change. I have to jump through hoops to get a $ 400 +  plus camera to work and that is disappointing and tiring.

There is no low battery power light. Do you mean the battery symbol? Or something else?

There's no reason to "lose faith". At this point, you have to ignore the battery symbol in the app and on the portal and simply be aware of what voltages your power sources are. With these batteries in the camera, take/send a manual photo. What voltage does the status report show for the external power source (which is your lithium batteries)?

The battery symbol on the Ghost that I'm running with rechargeable AA and the direct-connect solar panel bugs me because all my other cameras (except a couple I'm running at the house with rechargeable AA only) show full battery all the time (external batteries with solar) but I've just had to learn to get over it for now. I know what power sources the camera has and is using and I know that the camera will work with those power levels.

Johnny is checking, but both of us are pretty sure that you can get an AC power plug for the camera, just not from Spartan. I looked on Amazon for adapters that I think are the right specs and there are bunches of choices for under $10. As soon as Johnny confirms the specs you need, he will post that info for you. Neither of us wants to post the wrong information so we are holding off until the specs are confirmed by someone who knows.

I meant power indicator not light..sorry.  I  already have 3 of the  GC-Z4Gb cameras and they came on line flawlessly.

I understand what you are saying about voltage readings but one of the things that frustrate  me is why did the camera decide to quit working for no obvious reason ?  I am supprised Spartan does not stock a 110 power converter/adapter for this camera let alone not mention it in the manual , they talk about solar panels and 9 volt external batteries but I did not see anything in the manual about 110 power adapters ?

I am not arguing with you just trying to understand...Thanks

Adapters are in the works but just not available yet. When you go into the camera menu does it pass the hello test?

What SD card are you using? Have you tried a different one?

My guess about AC power is that it is less used for trail cams than external batteries and solar. We don’t have electricity at our camp unless we run a generator.

I have used 2 for surveillance for about 4 yrs and the ghost is for surveillance else where on my farm all 3 are in high traffic areas cheaper to invest in some extension cords instead of replacing batteries every month not particularly wanting to buy a solar panel.

Jeff, I have one that I am using for security and it's plugged in to an outlet, it's one of the  standard 6v cameras. I know what you are saying about the extension cord vs. batteries, it's very nice not having to worry about it.

As far as the hello test I forget if I tried it but I could text commands to the camera and it would send pictures to my phone

But you can't do that now correct, you have no communication with the camera currently?

I put the batteries in and it powers up and then shuts back down in about 2 seconds done it twice so far.

Sounds like the batteries are low. Do you have a volt meter?

I do I have a volt meter but not with me , I have new batteries with me I will put in and see how long they last. It's odd the spent batteries worked fine on my old 3 G Spartan camera .

I put new batteries in it and that seems to be the fix , I don't know why the other ones did not last I bought them new last week at Sam's club. Energizer Ultimate Lithium

Maybe you just got a bad one or two in the batch.

We will find out as time goes by the next few days seeing how the batteries last , if possible I still want to get a 110 power converter.

I would just make sure power save is turned on to get the most accurate test results from this set of batteries. Do you have it set to photo, photo+video or video only?

Should I have the power saving setting on or off on my Ghost cam ? I was told to leave it off on my GC-Z4Gb cameras.
